Wolfgang Van Halen followed in Eddie Van Halen and joined his father's band as a teenager. Currently with the band Mammoth WVH , the musician recounts the most difficult part of starting his career under those circumstances.
When Michael Anthony left Van Halen after more than three decades with the group, Wolfgang was chosen to take over the position in 2006, at the age of 16 – and had no difficulty adapting to his bandmates.
“We’ve been playing together for so long that it felt natural [to join the band] at that point, I think the only unnatural part was being on stage in front of so many people,” he told Indulge Express (via Ultimate Guitar ). “And I think the way I felt comfortable was imagining that they weren’t there because it was my family, you know?”
In the same interview, Wolfgang said that he had a normal childhood and his family never pressured him to pursue a musical career. When the interest arose spontaneously, Eddie bought his son a drum set as a gift.
At the end of March, MAMMOTH WVH. released two tracks from the project's debut album: "Don't Back Down" and "Think It Over," listen here.
