Sinéad O'Connor: 8 incredible covers, from Nirvana to Pink Floyd

Discover other versions of the singer's work beyond the success of Prince

Sinéad O'Connor marked a generation when she emerged as an alternative pop star in the late 1980s, with her shaved head and unmistakable voice. Throughout her career, the Irish singer-songwriter has demonstrated her love for rock in numerous covers, from Nirvana to Pink Floyd and more.

You probably already know that the definitive song of Sinéad's career, the unforgettable "Nothing Compares 2 U," was written by Prince . But that wasn't the only song by the singer that the artist covered, nor the only rock cover Sinéad O'Connor has done.

To honor the singer, who passed away last Wednesday, July 26th, at the age of 56, Wikimetal has compiled a list of rock covers sung by the artist.

Pink Floyd – “Mother”

Roger Waters invited Sinéad O'Connor to perform at the historic concert The Wall: Live In Berlin , recorded in 1992. This became one of the most important live albums in rock history due to the scale and number of people in the audience, as well as the historical context of the show, held in the area where the Berlin Wall was located. The singer was responsible for performing "Mother".

Nirvana – “All Apologies”

On the album Universal Mother , released in 1994, Sinead O'Connor recorded a surprising version of "All Apologies," a Nirvana song originally from the grunge band's In Utero

Prince – “Nothing Compares 2 U'

Sinéad O'Connor's most famous song was written by Prince for the band The Family , an R&B group created by the singer himself that released only one album. But the track only gained popularity with the public in the singer's voice, as a single from I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got (1990). After the success of the song in the Irish singer's voice, Prince released his own version on the album The Hits / The B-Sides (1993).

Prince – “I Would Die 4 You”

More than two decades after the success of her first Prince cover, Sinéad was invited to sing "I Would Die 4 U" with the reggae group Radio Riddler in 2014. The song was originally released in 1984, part of the classic album Purple Rain .

John Lennon – “Mind Games”

Also on the successful album I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got, Sinéad O'Connor also released a cover of John Lennon's "Mind Games." The song is part of the former Beatle's fourth solo album, released in 1973.

Bob Dylan – “I Believe In You”

After her infamous performance on Saturday Night Live, in which Sinéad O'Connor tore up a photo of the then-Pope, the singer was invited to perform at a Bob Dylan tribute concert at Madison Square Garden. Unfortunately, she was booed so vehemently that she was unable to perform her version of "I Believe in You." The concert album contains the artist's rehearsal version.

Bob Dylan – “Property Of Jesus”

The singer participated in yet another tribute to Bob Dylan, this time with a powerful version of "Property of Jesus," a song that was part of the artist's concert setlist for many years.

The Who – “Baba O'Riley”

Sinéad O'Connor performed a version of The Who's "Baba O'Riley" alongside none other than Roger Daltrey himself in 1994. The collaboration was recorded on the live DVD A Celebration: The Music of Pete Townshend and The Who .
