Willow , daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett , fully immersed herself in pop-punk sounds in "transparentsoul," a collaboration with blink-182 drummer Travis Barker . Now, the singer has confirmed an entire album in this style with the track "Lipstick," released this Friday, the 25th.
The new song showcases a heavier side of the artist than her previous work. “I just wanted to let loose with this album. I wanted to have fun, be young, and not be so existential and worried all the time,” she told Kerrang! “I thought this was an outlet for a new energy that I wanted to bring to my music.”.
Inspired by her mother, who was the vocalist for the nu-metal band Wicked Wisdom in the 2000s, Willow had already demonstrated her full potential beyond alternative pop by reuniting the band for a surprise performance for Jada .
“Lipstick” shows more weight than the first single and gives a glimpse of what to expect from this new phase of the artist. Still without an announced tracklist, the album is called Lately I Feel Everything and will be released on July 16th.
