Wikimetal Recommends highlights the debut album by Brazilian guitarist and producer Val Santos . The musician delved into his memories and experiences of the 1980s for his first solo album. 1986 , released by  Wikimetal Music this Friday, the 28th, recreates the thrash and heavy metal style that dominated the decade and influenced countless musicians worldwide.

The decade celebrated on the album, in addition to featuring releases like Master of Puppets by Metallica , Reign in Blood by Slayer , and Peace Sells… But Who's Buying? by Megadeth , was also the time when Val Santos began listening to the genre and interacting and working with bands that were emerging on the Brazilian scene, such as VIPER , Vodu , and Volkana .

After founding the band Zuris , Val Santos was the drummer for VIPER and responsible for many of the arrangements that can be heard on the band's most classic album, Theatre of Fate. Later he switched to guitar and formed Toyshop with drummer Guilherme Martin and guitarist Gabriel Weinberg , a band that became popular in the 1990s by combining a heavy, Ramones with the more pop-oriented melodic style of vocalist Natacha .

Toyshop signed with the Dutch label Roadrunner and released their first album in 1999. Recorded in Los Angeles and produced by Sylvia Massy ( Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tool ), “Party Up” made the band a success in alternative rock. Besides “Run Away” and “Everybody Crazy,” which were part of the soundtrack for the Hollywood hit “Holiday in the Sun,” in 2001, the single “Daydream” reached number one on European TV and radio charts. Toyshop toured the US and Brazil, where the album also gained radio airplay. With Nando Machado on bass, the band reunited in 2016 and released the album Candy ForMusic Records label , produced by Mauricio Cersosimo ( VIPER , Emicida , Skank ).

As a guitarist, Val Santos returned to VIPER in 2007 to record All My Life . On that album, he also composed three songs, “Cross the Line”, “Dreamer” and “Miracle”, and performed shows throughout Brazil and South America. After acting as producer for Felipe Machado ( FMSolo , from 2015, and Primata , scheduled for release in 2021), Val Santos also composed the songs “I Spit on Your Grave” and “Empire of Demise” for Vodu's 2020 album, Waking With Fire.

1986 It's already a classic of Brazilian thrash metal. Besides the great compositions and excellent production, the album features special appearances by Brazilian musicians who have made the country one of the leading exponents of the heavy metal genre worldwide. Listen to the entire album below.
