Wikimetal Recommends features a special and very political band. Asfixia Social released the music video for their single "Revelação" last Friday, the 28th, a track from their album Sistema de Soma (2020).
The song addresses the dilemma of seeking happiness within a routine, tackling with high spirits the dilemma of "growing old, counting the days until death" in the rush to achieve dreams that often aren't even your own – or seeking a new way of life, something portrayed by the musicians in the music video. "Either choose to live, and enjoy your time, change your daily routine," the lyrics summarize.
Despite being a rock band, Asfixia Social has a crossover , mixing punk ideology with influences from ska, rap, and Brazilian music in their songs. This is evident in their music, which balances social criticism with "a breath of hope," in the group's own words, especially with yet another year haunted by the pandemic.
Formed by Kaneda Mukhtar (vocals, trumpet and trombone ), Rafael Santos (guitar and vocals), Leonardo Oliveira (bass and vocals), Marcelo Sampaio (guitar and vocals) and Rodrigo Silva (drums), the band features special appearances by Funk Buia (Z'África Brasil) , musicians Bocato (trombone) and Gabriel Rosati (trumpet), as well as the choir of the youth group Vozes Poéticas (Vopo) in “Revelação”.
Asfixia Social also has a tour scheduled for Brazil, the United Kingdom, and Europe. Check out the full dates here .
