On May 26th, the group Asfixia Social released a single titled "No Censorship 2021," a direct reference to the current misgovernment in Brazil.
According to a statement released to the press, the group explains that "the song became a denunciation against the Bolsonaro government, which also persecuted cartoonists, such as Aroeira, and events like Facada Fest, using an alleged National Security Law to criminalize any opposition, resurrecting the era of the military dictatorship."
“Censura Não 2021” arrives on all streaming platforms with a new music video, which you can watch below. The song is a re-recording of the original 2011 version. “When we denounced the political and cultural regression in Brazil, it became clear that 'Censura Não' had become even more relevant. The evolution of the band's sound has also become more intense and heavy in these 10 years, and this was fundamental for revisiting the song.”
“Our revolt is against a government that has been destroying the lives of millions of people, attacking culture, and denouncing the genocide of more than 450,000 people in Brazil since the beginning of the pandemic… and we continue counting…”, says the band's vocalist, Kaneda .
Asfixia Social consists of Kaneda Mukhtar (vocals, trumpet and trombone), Rafael Santos (guitar and vocals), Leonardo Oliveira (bass and vocals), Marcelo Sampaio (guitar and vocals) and Rodrigo Silva (drums).
