Grey Daze Chester Bennington 's former band before Linkin Park The Phoenix last Friday, the 17th . This new release follows Amends , which, like this one, contains vocals by Bennington recorded before his death and songs from the band's lesser-known catalog.
The Phoenix features guest appearances by Dave Navarro , Richard Patrick (of Filter ), and Chester's daughters, Lily and Lila . According to Grey Daze, while Amends was more of a reflection of the grief the band was going through, the new album is "a celebration of our friend, his talent, and his music."
The album serves as a cathartic tribute and remembrance of the musician, who passed away on July 20, 2017. Chester's vocals are presented with the anguish and aggression already known to fans, but this time more raw and youthful. Here, Bennington returns, just like the album's name, like a phoenix. The name is also, of course, a reference to the city where he was born, Phoenix, Arizona.
The band states that the album “captures the angst and energy of Chester that people fell in love with” and that it is much more “aggressive.” Before his death, Chester Bennington announced that Grey Daze was reuniting in the studio to re-record some of their old songs. After the singer's death, the band received permission from his widow, Talia Bennington , to continue working on the material and eventually release it.
