Felipe Machado's new solo album features songs in Portuguese, a tribute to Andre Matos, and more.

Guitarist and founder of VIPER released his second solo album on the 10th of this month.

This week's Wikimetal Recommends features Felipe Machado , guitarist and founder of VIPER Primata, on March 10th

Primata is Felipe Machado's first album sung in Portuguese, and explaining why, he says: “I felt the need to express myself more directly to the public. Although I'm used to the sound of English after so many years with VIPER, I thought it would be challenging to compose and sing in Portuguese – and it's precisely these creative challenges that inspire me.”

“I’m very curious to know what the public will think of the songs, since they are quite different from VIPER and even from my first album. In my solo career, I follow the same concept that we applied in VIPER: the constant desire to overcome challenges and break down barriers,” says Machado.

Primata is produced by Val Santos, mixed by Val and Mauricio Cersosimo , and mastered by Mauricio Gargel . In addition to the three singles mentioned, the album features collaborations with Pit Passarell, Yves Passarell, Fabiano Carelli , and others. The album also includes a tribute to Andre Matos , former vocalist of VIPER and childhood friend of Machado. "Sentido do Fim" was written on the morning of June 8, 2019, the day of the vocalist's death.

Felipe Machado sings, plays acoustic and electric guitar; the electronic drums were programmed by Val Santos, who also plays bass. Also participating were Leandro Caçoilo and Guilherme Martin , from VIPER, as well as singers Natacha Cersosismo ( Toyshop ), Bia Barbar , Bia Rhaissem , and bassist Rob Gutierrez ( Hollowmind ).

Machado's first solo release was in 2015, when he released FMSolo . These songs gave rise to a remix album in 2020 called FMX: FMSolo Remixes , featuring versions made by DJs.

The album is available on all digital platforms, released by ForMusic Records in partnership with FMLabs, Machado's production company. Listen to Primata below.
