Gene Hoglan explains why Dark Angel's new album isn't on Spotify.

'Extinction Level Event' marked the band's first new music release in 34 years.

Gene Hoglan , drummer for Dark Angel , has explained why the band's new album, Extinction Level Event , is not available on Spotify. The album, released digitally on September 5th by Reversed Records , marked the release of new music from the group for the first time in 34 years.

In an interview with the channel We Go To 11 , Hoglan said: “This happened due to the current state of streaming. There are several artists who are removing their music from Spotify. It’s kind of a double-edged sword. Do you want everyone to have access to your music? Of course you do. At the moment, it’s the best option for us and the fans to be able to listen to our music immediately. It may seem like we’re giving up, since we’re not putting the songs there,” he said [transcription via Blabbermouth ].

Gene also mentioned that Dark Angel chose not to include the album on Spotify due to the platform's terms of service. He believes the best option at the moment is to maintain access only through the record label's official website

“There are a lot of changes happening on Spotify. I’m not an expert on this, but I needed to read some of these terms. I thought, ‘I can’t be comfortable with this right now.’ I’ll always tell people to go to the official Reversed Records . That’s the best way to listen to Dark Angel right now. And I want everyone to hear the music, so definitely go check it out there,” he concluded.
