In an interview with Louder Sound, Dave Mustaine definitively explained Megadeth from Back To The Beginning's farewell show Black Sabbath which also ended up being 's last Ozzy Osbourne.
According to the band's vocalist and founder, the reason was much simpler than any speculation. "It was because we were touring Europe with Disturbed," he explained without giving further details.
According to Mustaine, Ozzy's death just two weeks after the event caught him by surprise, as it did the rest of the world. "Nobody outside knew how imminent his death would be, and I certainly didn't," he lamented. "I loved Ozzy. I always thought he and Sharon were two of the nicest people to me in the music business. I was devastated when it happened."
James LoMenzo said that Megadeth was not invited to the event
Dave Mustaine's version 's previous statement James LoMenzo, in which he claimed that Megadeth wasn't even invited to participate in Back To The Beginning. According to the bassist, the band's manager, David, tried to contact "everyone" at the time and made it clear that the group would be available to perform if the opportunity arose.
“The truth is, I don’t believe anyone invited us, which was fine. Not everyone gets invited to every party,” LoMenzo said. “But at the same time, when we were in Europe last week, David [Megadeth’s manager] said he was contacting everyone and saying we were in the neighborhood and close enough to go. And if they wanted, we could stay for a few days and sort it out… If they wanted. I don’t know what our manager got out of it, but he didn’t get [the show], so we just went back home.”
Sharon Osbourne removed the band from the lineup due to conflicts with her manager
Shortly before the historic performance on July 5th, Sharon Osbourne revealed that she had removed a band from the lineup due to disagreements with the group's manager. She did not reveal who she was referring to.
“I had a huge, huge falling out with a manager over this celebration for Ozzy [Osbourne] and Sabbath. And it was probably the worst feeling I’ve had in years. I don’t care what this person says about me, or what he thinks, because he doesn’t know me. Now he’s out there making up absurd lies because I took his band out of the event,” he commented.
