President , a new British band, caused a stir with their debut single, "In The Name Of The Father," released last Thursday, May 15th.
This is yet another mysterious, masked, and anonymous band that delivers a sound that playfully explores the sensibilities between heavy metal and pop. Without a defined genre or identity, their debut single has already accumulated thousands of streams, and their social media accounts boast over 65,000 followers.
A press release announced “In The Name Of The Father” and described the track as “a raw meditation on existential fear and the inevitability of death, referencing the 'King of Terrors'”.
The band said in a statement: “Something is happening. A growing noise, a wave in the republic of the underground. We connected. You heard. Your curiosity, your questions, your conversation… We witnessed it all. Here, we make our first proclamation. 'In The Name Of The Father'. This is the first crack on the surface. This is your President. See you soon. Good luck.”
Presidente seemingly appeared out of nowhere but delivered a sound brimming with technique and power, as if he were a seasoned artist. But what exactly is known about this new metal sensation?
Who is President?
As with any mysterious band, rumors are starting to surface online, and some fans have already shared their theories about who Presidente is.
The first theory is that President could be some kind of spin-off of Sleep Token . Not only because they share the same management company and entrepreneur, Future History , but also the same musical and visual style.
Another interesting fact is that President only follows four other bands on Facebook: Mogwai, Deftones,
The Cure, and Underoath. Therefore, some fans have suggested that the project might include members of these bands, making it a rock supergroup.
However, a more plausible theory that has been gaining traction is that President is actually Charlie Simpson . The British artist is the vocalist for Busted and guitarist and backing vocalist for the post-hardcore band Fightstar .
Therefore, the theory is based on a possible vocal similarity between the President vocalist and Charlie Simpson. But, in addition, the debut single was released by King Of Terrors / ADA – King Of Terrors Limited is a London-based company whose director is Charles Robert Simpson.
A Reddit user discovered another coincidence earlier this year. According to the user, the UK trademark for "President" is registered by Komorebi Entertainment Limited , a company owned by Charlie Simpson.
Another interesting fact is that Charlie Simpson participated in, and won, the British version of The Masked Singer in 2023, wearing the Rhino mask/costume.
Shows already announced
Even before their debut single in February of this year, Download Festival 2025 announced the band on the lineup, with a performance scheduled for June 15th on the Dogtooth Stage.
Last Monday, the 18th, President announced another show through a curious post on Instagram:
“PRESIDENT will hold his first major rally on July 30th at The Garage in London. This is a pivotal moment in the campaign. His presence will be noted.”
