Alice Cooper posted a tribute to his colleague
Drummer Pentti “Whitey” Glan died at age 71 after battling lung cancer.
The news was reported by Simcoe.com. They say the musician was receiving treatment for pneumonia when the illness was discovered.
Whitey Glan was born in Finland on July 8, 1946, and moved to Canada in 1965 where he joined the band Rogues, which later changed its name to Mandala.
A few years later he played with the band Bush on a tour with Steppenwolf and Three Dog Night in the early 70s. Later, Glan joined Lou Reed's band and then went on to work with Alice Cooper.
The drummer played on Cooper's album Welcome To My Nightmare , which reached number 5 on the Billboard chart.
Upon receiving the news, Alice Cooper paid tribute to his colleague on his official Facebook page. Check out the statement below:
“Rest in peace, Whitey! I hired Whitey Alan as my drummer for the Welcome To My Nightmare tour because he was simply the best drummer there was. He was a great person, everyone who knew him considered him their best friend. He was one of the first rock drummers, but in my opinion he was very underrated and received little media attention. Canada has lost a great musician.”
