The album was scheduled for release in 2018, but was delayed due to technical and personal issues within the band.
Whitesnake released their 13th studio album, Flesh & Blood , . The work marks the debut of guitarist Joel Hoekstra and keyboardist Michelle Luppi on an original project for the group – Hoekstra participated in The Purple Album Deep Purple cover album .
Flesh & Blood is also the first work in which David Coverdale composes together with guitarist Reb Beach , who has been part of the band since 2002 but has never collaborated on songwriting.
