On May 6th, Whitesnake Greatest Hits collection , where they revisited and remixed some of the biggest hits from their discography. Among them is the classic "Is This Love," which became their second biggest hit in the United States, second only to "Here I Go Again."

In a segment called Look Back on his YouTube channel, David Coverdale was asked if the band had hesitated to release the song because it was "too radio-friendly," to which the vocalist revealed that the ballad had initially been written for Tina Turner (transcription via Blabbermouth ) .

“The original idea was for Tina Turner. My friends and associates at EMI Records were looking for songs to continue Tina’s wonderful story. The album with “What’s Love Got To Do With It” was huge, global, and they were looking for songs. They knew I was going to travel to do the matching of ideas for songs and said, ‘If you think of something that you think fits Tina, let us know,’ because they knew I was a big fan of hers,” he says.

According to Coverdale, he composed “Is This Love” with the help of John Sykes , but when Whitesnake's record label heard the song, they refused to give the track to Tina Turner. “I said, 'No, no, no. This is for Tina Turner,' and they said, 'No means no,'” he recounts.
