Whitesnake fans had a scare this weekend, but everything seems to be cleared up now!
Last Saturday, the 25th, the band had to cancel their performance at the Rock Imperium in Spain. Initially, the band did not give further details about the reason , but the festival organizers stated that drummer Tommy Aldridge was experiencing "serious health problems." The statement was later removed.
The news alarmed fans, but lead singer David Coverdale used his social media to deny the seriousness of the situation as announced by the festival. On his Twitter, he wrote:
“Pay attention! Tommy was a bit unwell, as can happen to anyone, but he is improving. He never had what was wrongly described as 'serious health problems' and can't wait to get back on stage and play for the fans! The Spanish promoter released a misleading statement.”
In another tweet, Coverdale thanked a fan for their well wishes for Tommy and added: “The producer’s insensitive and tactless statement has worried Tommy’s family, friends, and fans. Completely unacceptable.”
One of Whitesnake's longest-serving members, Tommy Aldridge is currently 71 years old and was with the band from 1987 to 1990 and from 2003 to 2007. He returned a second time in 2013 and has remained with the group ever since. His resume includes work with big names like Ozzy Osbourne , Yngwie Malmsteen , Ted Nugent , and many more.
Whitesnake is currently on its final tour , and David Coverdale's farewell to the stage has been "emotional" for the singer, according to guitarist Joel Hoekstra . In 2022, the band will celebrate its 44th anniversary, having been formed in 1978.
