What Drives Us: Watch the trailer for the documentary directed by Dave Grohl.

The documentary offers the perspective of several rock stars and premiered yesterday, April 30th.

AC/DC vocalist Brian Johnson , Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich U2 guitarist The Edge Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea are among the rock stars featured in a new trailer for the documentary What Drives Us , directed by Dave Grohl .

The soundtrack features the AC/DC classic, " For They About To Rock (We Salute You) ," and live footage from Nirvana , Slayer , Aerosmith , and many more. The trailer shows some of rock's most famous faces talking about what it feels like to perform live for an audience.

“You live for those moments on stage and you live for that connection with other people who are like you,” says Lars Ulrich. Meanwhile, Brian Johnson states: “Rock 'n' roll gives you power, strength, that wonderful adrenaline rush.”

“Playing for a live audience is like… it’s some kind of other dimension,” says St. Vincent (also known as Annie Clark ). The Edge adds that “rock 'n' roll is the unique opportunity to shout to the world: 'I'm here, I exist'.”

“The only reason you do all this,” Flea adds, “is because you love it.”

“This film is my love letter to all the musicians who have ever jumped into an old van with their friends and left everything behind for the simple reward of playing music,” says Foo Fighters Dave Grohl. He further explains that the initial project was to explain the logistics behind cramming all his friends and equipment into a tiny space for months. In the end, it became more than that: exploring the reasons and motivations that lead someone to this career.
