The band changed the lyrics of Powerslave.
Iron Maiden made their first trip to China this week. Although there were no changes to the setlist, the band had to make several small alterations to their performance to gain approval from the country's Ministry of Culture, which reviewed the lyrics and the band's show. Check out the changes made:
– There was no pyrotechnics during the show
– During the performance of The Trooper, vocalist Bruce Dickinson did not hold the Union Jack flag (but the vocalist pretended to be holding the flag during the performance, as can be seen in the video below)
– The lyrics of Powerslave had to be changed: instead of “Tell me why I had to be a Powerslave,” Bruce sang “Tell me why I had to be a Wicker Man”
– The band could not throw gifts (bandanas, drumsticks, etc.) to the audience
– Bruce Dickinson could not swear
