Corey Taylor gave an interview to Tom Power , host of the Q , for CBC Radio One ( via Blabbermouth ), explaining why the band has stayed together even after more than twenty years.
“I think they are two different things. I think it’s about the fact that we still have that determination to make music, to be on stage and do the best we can. Despite that, obviously with age and injuries, we’ve slowed down a bit, but we still have the will to do it. It’s also the fact that we’re all fans of each other, of the writing, of how we play, how we perform. We love the music we’ve created together and there’s still so much we haven’t done. There are still many things, musically, that we could try.”
He added: “I think we know we’re not done yet, let’s put it that way. I think the consensus is that we know we’re not done yet. And maybe when the day comes, when we all look at each other and say, ‘You know, I think we’ve got it. We’ve achieved what we needed to achieve,’ that’s when we put down our tools and go back to the garage. But until then, man, I mean, we’re still very lucky to be able to do this. We’re still very lucky to have the size of audience that we have. We’ve captured something in the zeitgeist , which is very rare. And it’s very rare for a band of our age and genre to stay current and relevant.”
Regarding the initial question, he concluded: “So I don’t know if I really have an answer to that. All I know is that we’re trying to take advantage of this as much as possible, because there’s no detailed plan for it – apart from maybe a few bands; Metallica , obviously. Other than that, there’s not really a plan for us to follow. We’re kind of doing our best while we can.”
