The band Voice of Baceprot , formed in Indonesia by a trio of Muslim girls passionate about metal, responded to the religious fanaticism that has plagued them since the beginning of their career.
The band's new single, called "God, Allow Me (Please) to Play Music," calls for freedom of artistic expression through music. "I'm not the criminal / I'm not the enemy / I just want to sing a song to show my soul," says part of the lyrics. The music video also carries other powerful messages, such as a plea for a world free from sexual harassment and other forms of violence in a sexist society.
As reported by Metal Injection , the attacks suffered by the band were not limited to social media, where the artists receive messages labeling metal as demonic music and inappropriate for women, but they were even pelted with stones as they left a rehearsal. Fortunately, they all managed to escape on that occasion.
