By Leandro Abrantes and Luis Fernando Ribeiro

More than a year after the release of their debut album, Boiuna , the band Vocifer , brought to life on April 22nd – a date that commemorates the arrival of the Portuguese in Brazil – the animated music video for “War of Vendetta”, one of the songs from their first album.

Severely impacted by the quarantine situation imposed by the global pandemic to which we are all subjected, Vocifer saw their plans and dream of being on the road all put on hold when they had to retreat to their homes and resort to social isolation just days after the launch show of their first album. After the initial shock, the band returned to producing material, beginning the composition process for a new album and simultaneously working on the idea of a music video to promote the album Boiuna and maintain closeness with their audience.

The idea matured throughout 2020 and the result was incredible. “War of Vendetta” is the band's heaviest song, and its choice as a single proved quite audacious, revealing a band with an artistic vision above commercial considerations, concerned with conveying truth and purpose through their music. Through this animated music video, the band was able to transmit their message, their truth, and reclaim the rich culture of our people, sometimes so underestimated and mistreated.

Regarding the theme of the lyrics and the music video, the band highlighted: “April 22, 1500, is marked as the day the Portuguese arrived in what we now call Brazil. For some, a discovery; for others, an invasion. The fact is that in these 521 years, several Brazils have been invaded and re-invaded, discovered and rediscovered, a history forged in struggle and bloodshed. Brazil is the product of its own self-destruction.”.

“War of Vendetta” is now available on the band's YouTube channel, and the music video, besides being beautiful, is full of references that will make you watch it several times before you can identify them all. Check it out below:
