Viper, the band that thrills generations, moved the crowd at Virada Cultural 2015

by Juliana Regina de Oliveira Torres

A sunny afternoon and a free event in the heart of the country's largest metropolis. This was the perfect setting to welcome a legend of Brazilian Metal, and one of the icons of good old São Paulo rock 'n' roll, the band Viper, who rocked the afternoon of Sunday the 21st, at the Virada Cultural 2015. The show brought together around 600 headbangers in front of the stage set up between Ipiranga and Rio Branco avenues, as highlighted by the vocalist, Andre Matos, the band's originator.

What the audience received was a more mature and confident Viper than ever, playing their greatest hits without great pretensions, but delivering what was undoubtedly one of the band's best performances in recent years. Drummer Guilherme Martin was the first to take the stage, already amidst shouts of "olê olê Viper Viper," followed by guitarists Hugo Mariutti and Felipe Machado, accompanied by bassist Pit Passarell, who paved the way for Andre Matos to complete the band and the excitement of the audience, who eagerly awaited the classics.

There is much more than just a group of great musicians there; it's a partnership that has been very successful and continues to cultivate a legion of fans

With the impeccable power and tuning that have become his trademark over the years, Matos launched into "Knights of Destruction ," and was accompanied energetically and with the typical excellence of each of the instrumentalists. To continue, he invited vocalist Ricardo Bocci, who was part of the band between 2004 and 2009, to the stage to sing the excellent " Nightmare ," " At Last Chance, and " Wings of the Evil ." Bocci showed that he continues to deliver very well and was responsible for the nostalgic touch of the show, completed with the participation of Val Santos and Nando Machado, reminding us that there is much more there than a group of great musicians, but a partnership that worked very well and continues to cultivate a legion of fans.

Amidst enthusiastic applause and shouts, Andre Matos resumed vocals for " To Live Again ," " Cry for the Edge ," "Prelude to Oblivion," and " Living for the Night ," sung amidst the audience, before passing the baton to Pit Passarell for a brilliant rendition of "Rebel Maniac ," which, besides being characteristic of the band, also bears Pit's own signature. After the memorable performance, the band closed the show with "HR" and their traditional version of Queen's "We Will Rock You ," sung in chorus by all the members.
