Celebrating 34 years in the business and honoring the legacy of Andre Matos , Viper performed this Saturday in São Paulo.

More than just a regular show, the 'Viper & Guests Celebration Tour' is practically a reunion of the great Brazilian metal bands. Tonight, musicians from Viper, Shaman , and Angra .

The opening act was Trend Kill Ghosts , a band with only one year of experience playing powerful power metal. Even with a shortened set and sound problems, the group held their own and drew encouragement from the audience that was beginning to arrive at Tropical Butantã.

Meanwhile, Viper set up a stage with two drum kits in the background and a keyboard, preparing the setup for the parade of musicians that would pass by.

Vocalist Leandro Caçoilo entered the stage alongside guitarists Felipe Machado and Hugo Mariutti . Guilherme Martin was on drums and Luis Mariutti .

The group began the setlist with "Illusions," followed by "To Live Again," both from the album Theater of Fate , which Leandro Caçoilo described as the best metal album ever written in Brazil.

From then on, the parade of Brazilian metal classics was flawless, with more than special guest appearances. Pit Passarell joined in to sing "Evolution" and "Coma Rage," which guitarist Felipe Machado explained was all because of Pit.

Ricardo Confessori , drummer for Angra and Shaman, also participated in the celebration, which included a tribute to the master Andre Matos, who was the vocalist for all three bands.

Featuring classics like “A Cry From The Edge” and “At Least a Chance,” the set concluded before the encore with the metal and hardcore blend of “HR.” Upon returning, a cover of “Carry On,” the Angra anthem, moved everyone present.

2019 ends like this, then. A celebration of the power of Brazilian metal, internationally recognized and sometimes underappreciated here. And the crowning of Andre Matos as the genius behind the best that the genre has to offer in Brazil.
