In the era of streaming and digital music formats, vinyl records are making a comeback as indispensable collector's items, whether for classic albums or more recent releases. According to data on the best-selling records in the UK in 2021, rock fans are among the biggest consumers of this physical media.
According to a survey by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), published by The Guardian , vinyl sales last year were the best in the last 31 years, with more than five million units sold.
This impressive figure among British consumers represents an 8% increase compared to 2020. In every four physical album purchases, at least one was a vinyl record, a proportion not seen since 1990.
The UK's Top 10 best-selling vinyl records include four rock names, according to Ultimate Guitar . With the exception of Wolf Alice album Blue Weekend , all the records sold are classics released over three decades ago: Fleetwood Mac Rumours (1977), Nirvana Nevermind (1991), and Queen Greatest Hits (1981) .
