The musician has also played drums for Damageplan and Hellyeah.
Vinnie Paul , drummer and co-founder of Pantera , has died at the age of 54. The news was confirmed by the band on their official Facebook page, and the cause of death has not yet been released.
In 1981, Paul founded Pantera with his brother Dimebag Darrell , vocalist Donnie Hart , guitarist Terry Glaze (who took over vocals in 1982), and bassist Tommy D. Bradford – who was later replaced by Rex Brown . The group transformed over time, shifting their sound to something heavier, which eventually led to the addition of vocalist Phil Anselmo in 1986.
Pantera's popularity and success were almost immediate. The group received several platinum records, including Cowboys from Hell (1990), Vulgar Display of Power (1992), and Far Beyond Driven (1994). The two albums released afterward, The Greatest Southern Trendkill (1996) and Reinventing the Steel (2000), debuted in the top five on the Billboard charts.
In 2003, Pantera broke up and Paul and Darrell formed Damageplan, with whom they released only one album, New Found Power , alongside special guests such as Zakk Wylde , Jerry Cantrell , and Corey Taylor . The following year, Darrell was shot and killed during a concert.
In 2006, Paul joined vocalist Chad Gray ( Mudvayne ) and guitarist Tom Maxwell ( Nothingface ) to form Hellyeah . The band released five studio albums and, according to the drummer, they were working on a successor to Undern!able (2016).
More information should be released soon.
