Vern Rumsey , bassist and co-founder of the post-hardcore band Unwound , Household Gods bandmate Conan Neutron .
“Absolutely stunned and shocked,” Neutron wrote on his Facebook yesterday, the 6th. “Vern Rumsey is gone. I have few details. One of the sweetest and purest hearts I’ve ever known and one of my all-time favorite bass players. I can barely process this right now.”
“I was such a fan of what he did, he was in one of my favorite bands (Unwound). He was a compatriot, my colleague in Household Gods and my friend for many years. I am devastated. This is impossibly heavy and I can barely bear it,” the musician concluded.
Rumsey was present on all Unwound albums, from its formation in 1991 until the band's end in 2002. Besides Unwound and Household Gods, the bassist also played with Blonde Redheads on their 1997 album *Fake Can Be Just As Good* , and co-managed the label Punk In My Vitamins .
The cause of Vern Rumsey's death has not been revealed. Rest in peace.
