Varg Vikernes: YouTube channel removed after site policy change

The platform will remove any content that contains hate speech

Varg Vikernes, frontman of Burzum , had his YouTube channel Thulean Perspective removed from the site. According to an announcement by the platform, several channels were deleted for not following the new policy.

YouTube is deleting and penalizing channels and videos that seek to spread neo-Nazi ideals, without naming any specific user. See the platform's statement below.

“We are taking another step in our policy against hate speech by specifically banning videos that claim one group of people is superior to justify discrimination, segregation, or exclusion based on qualities such as age, gender, race, caste, religion, sexual orientation, or veteran status. This includes, for example, videos that promote or glorify Nazi ideology, which is discriminatory. We will also remove content that denies violent and well-documented events, such as the Holocaust or the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting.”

Hours after the statement was released, fans noticed that Vikernes' channel was no longer available. In it, the musician spoke about "protecting his race" and claimed that Jews were participating in a secret conspiracy to dominate the world.

Varg Vikernes became famous not only for the black metal project Burzum but also for his hate speech and for being accused and found guilty of the murder of Euronymous, guitarist of Mayhem, in 1993. He was released in 2009 and five years later was arrested on suspicion of planning a terrorist act, inciting racial hatred and glorifying acts of war.
