Vark Vikernes was imprisoned for 16 years after killing Euronymous, guitarist of Mayhem.
Varg Vikernes, the mastermind behind Burzum and former member of Mayhem, stated in a video that he refused to perform two Burzum shows, even though the fee offered was approximately 1.4 million reais (Brazilian currency).
“I’ve said this many times before, I don’t play live. I don’t like playing live. And if I don’t like doing it, why should I? I was offered, I think it was $425,000 to do two shows in London a few years ago, and I said, ‘No, no, thank you.’”
Varg continues: “I’d rather stay home here and change my car’s oil, or collect some rotten wood from the forest, scattered across my old, ruined farmland. I’d rather spend time with my family, with my children. I’d rather spend more time here in the car talking to those who subscribe to [my YouTube channel] Thulean Perspective. I don’t care about money. I never do anything to make money. To be honest, I’d probably rather spend a month in prison than spend a month rehearsing with some musicians, metalheads.”
Burzum's most recent album, The Ways of Yore , was released in 2014, and a trio of singles followed the next year. Since then, there has been no news about new music from Varg Vikernes.
Varg played bass on Mayhem's classic album, De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas . In 1993 he stabbed the band's guitarist, Euronymous, and was sentenced to 21 years in prison.
