Vania Cavalera , mother of icons Max and Iggor Cavalera , passed away this Wednesday, the 5th, at the age of 80.

In an official statement posted on the Cavalera Conspiracy , the duo thanks their matriarch for helping them along their musical journey:

"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our matriarch, Vania Cavalera. Vania's greatest joy in life was raising and loving her three children, Max, Iggor, and Kira, and being the grandmother of her 14 grandchildren."

"Our family requests privacy during this difficult time of mourning as we honor our mother's wishes and legacy by continuing to celebrate her 80-year journey of love, strength, spirituality, and metal."

In a personal statement on his profile, guitarist Andreas Kisser spoke out after Vania's passing and also credited the matriarch of the Cavalera family as a great help to Sepultura :

"Vania, rest in peace! I am so grateful for everything you did for me at the beginning of my journey with Sepultura in Belo Horizonte, for everything you did for the band and your family. My condolences to Max, Igor, and Kira. Much love!"

The cause of Vania Cavalera's death has not been revealed.

Rest in peace, Vania.
