Van Halen has enough material stored away for three to four albums. That's what drummer Alex Van Halen said during an appearance on the Talk Is Jericho ( via Loudwire ). According to him, the plan is to separate the material into parts, so they can analyze what's worth releasing and what isn't.

Alex mentions that the archive contains small licks that aren't enough for a song, but he also says that some are "incredibly powerful" and that it was a shame they ended up "at the bottom of the vault" and didn't become songs.

“On one end of the spectrum, there’s the fact that little licks don’t make a song. On the other end, some of those licks are incredibly powerful; it’s a shame they ended up in the vault instead of becoming records,” he said.

The drummer also emphasized that, despite having a wealth of musical material, he will set a high standard and will not release "just anything." For him, it's a process that takes time, and he wants to do it the right way. "They'll stay there [in the vault] until we figure out how and what to do with them," he explained.

“And again, you have to remember, it has to be at the level where Ed [Van Halen] and I used to play. We're not just going to do it any old way. We have access to some of the greatest musicians on the planet, and many of them are more than willing to be a part of some of the things,” he concluded.
