Rumors of a Van Halen Eddie Van Halen tribute show have been gaining traction in recent years, even being confirmed by Jason Newsted and Joe Satriani . However, according to host Eddie Trunk , the performance may be delayed by none other than David Lee Roth .

Last Friday, the 1st, during his radio show, Trunk Nation , Eddie reportedly said (as transcribed by Blabbermouth ) that "a very reliable source" told him that much of the decision depended on the former Van Halen vocalist. "This David Lee Roth – which shouldn't be a surprise to anyone – is a difficult guy to reason with, difficult to get an answer from, difficult to focus on anything, difficult to get to sign off on anything," he commented.

“He’s a complete mess – as you’ve seen over time – and he’s the one who’s been holding things up for Van Halen, not Alex, who wants to do it and is trying. Actually, it’s Roth who needs to sign the papers and get involved. To remove this obstacle, Alex and Dave have to come to an understanding, get Dave to want it, and figure out how it’s going to be done.”

According to Joe Satriani , talks about a possible reunion have been ongoing for "about a year." David Lee Roth announced in 2021 that he would perform the final shows of his career during a Las Vegas residency in December and January, but most of the dates were canceled due to the increase in COVID-19 cases at the time.

Van Halen was one of the most influential hard rock bands of the 70s, especially due to the notoriety of its talented guitarist, Eddie Van Halen, who passed away in 2020 at the age of 65 due to complications from throat cancer. Since then, there has been much speculation about a tribute concert to the guitarist, and the idea has even received the support of his son and fellow musician, Wolfgang Van Halen  .
