Val Santos continues his solo journey with the new version of "Cross The Line," which follows "Fire ," released in February.
“Cross The Line” was originally recorded in 2007 on VIPER 's All My Life , a period when the musician was the band's guitarist. “I always wanted to re-record it,” says Val, who is also the composer of “Cross the Line.” This release accompanies the announcement of 1986 , an album that will contain both tracks released this year. The album will be released on May 21st, also via Wikimetal Music .
In this new version, the vocals are handled by Rob Gutierrez, a member of Hollowmind , and the guitar solo is by Thiago Oliveira , who played with the bands Warrel Dane and Confessori . To maintain the "heavy" feel of "Fire," Val chose to record it in the same key, C.
1986 is Val's tribute to the 1980s, the decade in which he began listening to heavy metal and living and working with bands that were emerging on the Brazilian scene, such as VIPER, Vodu , and Volkana.
Val Santos
In the 80s, he founded his first band, Zuris , but soon after became the drummer for VIPER, being responsible for many of the arrangements that can be heard on the band's most classic album, Theatre of Fate (1989).
Later he started playing guitar and formed Toyshop with drummer Guilherme Martin and guitarist Gabriel Weinberg . The band became popular in the 1990s by combining a heavy, Ramones with the more pop-oriented melodic style of vocalist Natacha , having hits like "Run Away" and "Everybody Crazy," which were part of the soundtrack of the Hollywood hit Holiday in the Sun (2001). Alongside VIPER and Toyshop, Val has performed on stages in different parts of the world, touring Brazil, Latin America, and the United States over the last four decades.
Now, the musician and producer has drawn inspiration from these years to produce material with renowned and up-and-coming names from the Brazilian metal scene. It's a tribute to the golden years, but also proof that the genre remains powerful and more alive than ever.
