While the world follows the consequences of the invasion of the United States Capitol yesterday , videos of a recent student protest in Turkey are surfacing on the Internet with a very different atmosphere and a high-quality soundtrack.
The university students were demanding the resignation of the new President of Bogazici University, Melih Bulu . And during the demonstration, they played and sang loudly to Metallica such as "Nothing Else Matters" and "Master Of Puppets".
Bulu was appointed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a presidential decree issued on January 1st and took office on Tuesday; however, the student body and faculty members protested against Bulu's appointment, deeming it undemocratic and stating that the new rector was the first to be chosen from outside the university community since the 1980 military coup.
While defending himself against the protests and criticism, Bulu stated in an interview, "I am a president who listens to hard rock, Metallica," and that with this, he did not intend to change the culture of the University, and reinforced that students were free to demonstrate whenever they wanted, but that he would not resign.
