The São Paulo-based group Undo releases their self-titled debut album this Friday, the 31st. With a sound reminiscent of the 80s and compositions full of lyricism, the band consolidates its musical identity by uniquely blending elements of post-punk, alternative rock, and indie into something highly contemporary.
Formed by experienced and active artists closely linked to Brazilian rock, the original project consists of André Frateschi on vocals, Rafael Mimi and Johnny Monster on guitars, Rafael Garga on drums, and Dudinha Lima on bass and production.
After the success of their first 5 singles, “Coração Selvagem”, “Volta Aquela Cena”, “Porcos Não Olham Pro Céu”, “Aprender a Perder” (a collaboration with Leoni), and the most recent, “Melodrama”, a pop song , the quintet adds 5 more powerful tracks to those already released.
Among the unreleased tracks, "Músculo Novo do Medo" is one of the album's highlights and has already proven to be a fan favorite at the band's live shows. With Frateschi's poignant poetry and echoes of Depeche Mode and The Cure , the song perfectly synthesizes the entire aesthetic and concept of Undo.
The group also showcases all its diverse influences in tracks like the garage/stoner “Três Parangas”, the new wave punk “Kill Billy”, a collaboration with Dado Villa-Lobos ( Legião Urbana ), the danceable “Ninguém”, which opens the album, and “Prazer em Recomeçar”, the first song composed by the quintet, which beautifully closes the work.
"Undo" is a release from the ForMusic Records label.
About Undo
Undo was born from the restlessness of five musicians and composers who, by a stroke of luck – and through many projects – converged in their desire to create an original musical work.
André, the current vocalist of Legião Urbana, wrote the lyrics inspired by the band's name/theme: Undo as a cry to disarm the internal and external bombs of daily life, and also Undo as the (m)undo in pieces. The guitars and melodies of Johnny Monster and Rafael Mimi (ex-NX-Zero) complete the lyrical imagery in sound form, defining the language and references.
Furthermore, instrumentalist and sideman Rafael Garga brings all the experience gained from his travels throughout the country alongside names like Leela, Ekena, Bruno Del Rey, and Garga Groove Gang. This showcases the richness and diversity of Brazilian rock, with influences and collaborations that enrich the musical landscape. Bassist and producer Dudinha is credited with producing the album.
Ultimately, Undo, in its literal form, is a possibility, an escape route to a specific place. A place that is both familiar and surprising. To let go. The pleasure of starting over.
