In early February, a dispute arose between Ozzy Osbourne and Kanye West , who currently uses the stage name Ye , due to the unauthorized use of a Black Sabbath .
The rapper requested a sample of "War Pigs" for use in a track on his new album in collaboration with Ty Dolla $ign , Vultures 1. However, the request was denied by Osbourne on principle.
Since 2022, Ye has made a series of antisemitic comments, which were extremely poorly received and resulted in the loss of sponsorships and partnerships in the fashion industry, where he had previously collaborated with several brands, in addition to having his own brand, Yeezy .
The situation probably wouldn't have come to light if Ye had fully respected Ozzy's decision. However, during a party to promote the album, the rapper used a snippet of a live performance of "Iron Man" in the track "Carnival".
Upon learning of the incident, Ozzy spoke out on his Instagram profile. “Permission was denied because he [Ye] is an anti-Semite and has caused countless pains to many. He went ahead and used the sample anyway at his album listening party last night. I want no association with this man!”
Kanye West's response to Ozzy Osbourne
In response, Kanye made a provocative comment to Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne , posting a photo on his Instagram Stories of the couple at a Halloween party dressed as Ye and Bianca Censori , the rapper's wife.
In an interview with Billboard , Sharon, who was raised Jewish, defended her husband and emphasized that the fantasies were just a joke. “Spreading hate the way he [Ye] does shouldn’t be allowed. All the excuses – about him being bipolar or something – don’t change that.”
Although the sample of "Iron Man" was included in the performance during the event, the excerpt played at the party is not in the final version of the album, which is already available on streaming platforms.
Even so, Ozzy says he doesn't regret expressing his indignation and maintains his stance against Ye. “It’s wrong if you don’t say anything about him. I don’t want any of my work, in any way, associated with something like that.” (via Rolling Stone )
