Paul Mazurkiewicz , drummer for Cannibal Corpse , and Taylor Nordberg , guitarist for The Absence and Inhuman Condition , joined bassist Vernon Blake and vocalist Brian Stephenson to form the classic rock band Umbilicus .
The band's debut album will be released sometime in 2022, but they've already released a teaser of what's to come. The new sound is quite different from Cannibal Corpse's death metal, but Mazurkiewicz says he's been a fan of classic rock for over 20 years.
“Umbilicus was formed in the summer of 2020 and driven by our love for rock and roll from the late 60s, 70s and early 80s,” he says. “For about 20 years I’ve been listening to well-known bands like Grand Funk , Bad Company and Steppenwolf , and others not so well-known, like Sir Lord Baltimore and Lucifer’s Friend . The more I listened to these bands, the more I wanted to play this kind of music.”
According to the drummer, the band composed 10 "really cool" songs that same summer and then invited vocalist Brian Stephenson .
