Uli Jon Roth would like to perform in Manaus: "To see what's left of the Amazon."

The former Scorpions guitarist also said he hopes for "a new political beginning" in Brazil

Uli Jon Roth Scorpions guitarist and founder of Electric Sun , revealed his desire to perform in Manaus to experience the Amazon rainforest and celebrated the recent political changes in the country.

In an interview with the website Scorpions Brazil , the musician shared memories of touring Brazil, where he last performed in 2018. “I had many high points in Brazil. I always enjoyed being in your country and I love the audience, beautiful crowds every night. Wherever you go. And that makes a big difference, you know,” he said.

When asked if he knew the capital of the Amazon, Uli Jon Roth expressed interest in visiting the place. “No, no. I would love to go there, to see what’s left of the Amazon. I hope this stops now. We are so worried about it, that more and more deforestation has been happening every year. But I hope it stops, will it stop now?” he asked.

Informed by fans that new ministers had taken office at the beginning of the year, including the indigenous leader Sônia Guajajara, from the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples, the guitarist showed himself.

“This is very encouraging, and it’s great. Let’s hope it’s a new beginning, because the Amazon is not only important for Brazil, but for the whole world. If we lose this, we will lose everything. Every tree matters and needs to stay standing, each and every one of the trees, because when they are gone, it will be impossible for them to grow again, and all the animals that are there, you know?” he emphasized. “It’s a new beginning and a shadow has risen and the darkness will recede. I can already see that. But, you know, it’s important that everyone is optimistic and that they leave this valley for the sun again – the other sun, not the real sun, that one you always have.”.

Interestingly, Scorpions will be performing in Manaus at the end of 2023, as part of the Monsters of Rock festival in Brazil this year. Alongside Kiss and Sepultura, the German band will return to the city on April 12th at the Arena da Amazônia.
