In an interview with The Metal Voice, guitarist Uli Jon Roth was asked about comments made this week by Michael Schenker regarding his brother Rudolf, saying that the guitarist "copies everyone who is successful."
Roth commented:
“I respect Rudolf both as a human being and as a musician. Maybe he's not a virtuoso guitarist, but he's a great composer, and that's rare. Very few people in rock can actually write a riff like 'Rock You Like a Hurricane' or things like that. Things that stay in your mind forever. Rudolf has a great gift, and that can't be underestimated.”
So I don't know what got into Michael. I don't know what the problem was. Maybe he knows something I don't, but I doubt it. It's all a matter of perspective. Different people see things in different ways, at different times in their lives.
Sure, some of the things Michael said I can understand where they came from. Yeah, okay, maybe Rudolf also plays the Flying V. But also, that's natural. They're brothers, they come from the same place. And Rudolf started Scorpions. Without Rudolf there would be no Scorpions. He was the driving force from the beginning. He was the only one who had the vision to take the band far, and that's a great milestone. So it was all kind of sad. Maybe it's all in the past now.
I love them both. I have great respect and love for Michael, who is definitely one of the greatest guitarists of all time. But I don't think he needs to go against his brother. If there's a problem, he should keep it to himself and there's no need to go public. That's what I think.
