The Brazilian Union of Composers ( UBC ) is a non-profit association, run by creators, whose main objective is to defend and promote the interests of copyright holders of music and the distribution of income generated by its use, as well as cultural development.
The association recently formed a partnership with the global music organization, Session , which offers collaborative and innovative solutions that empower music creators to do what they love and get the credit they deserve. Together, Session and UBC will offer the more than 50,000 artists associated with the organization free access to the Session Studio , which helps collect vital information for properly crediting creators' work, integrated into the UBC platform. In practice, creators will gain a digital service that enables even more efficient and transparent identification of performances of their works and, consequently, boosts their royalties.
Artists will have access to the app starting December 7th. This exclusive one-year partnership is a major step towards ensuring Brazilian creators have all possible support throughout the creative process. Members can now sign up for the Session Studio app through the UBC portal, which automatically verifies their key identifiers. Using the app going forward, Brazilian creators can capture music and recording data at the moment of creation and deliver it to managers, record labels, publishers, CMOs, and digital service providers like SoundCloud, knowing their data is 100% accurate and verified. Furthermore, members will be able to utilize Session Studio's exclusive collaboration tools, helping them manage their musical creations from initial song ideas to release.
With the digital music industry projected to reach nearly US$270 million in revenue this year (Source: Statista), and Brazil now recognized as the 10th largest recorded music market globally (Source: IFPI), it is now more vital than ever that Brazilian creators are not only properly credited but also receive the money they deserve. Collaborations like this are essential for the sector, as they allow creators to focus on making music instead of dealing with pending payments or completing time-consuming administrative tasks.
Niclas Molinder , co-founder of Session, says: “We are very pleased to be working side-by-side with UBC to ensure that collectively we create a tangible difference in the professional lives of creators. The Brazilian market has shown impressive growth over the past two years, so partnering with Brazil’s largest collective management organization – an organization that consistently prioritizes its creators – bodes well for both the Latin American market and the industry as a whole. We know the digital music industry expects to grow by more than 10% each year, so this is an exciting step to ensure that no creator is left behind.”
Marcelo Castelo Branco , CEO of UBC, reinforces that the partnership demonstrates the organization’s keen eye on best market practices, for the benefit of creators. “UBC’s partnership with Session is a project aimed at making life easier, not only for our rights holders, but also for their partners in the music industry. It’s an app that captures audio, lyrics and, vitally, the credits of all the participants in the song. This data can then be digitally transferred to industry agents such as creator societies, record labels, publishers, aggregators, etc. Just press a button. This education, action and respect for correctly crediting everyone who contributes to a song is a shared priority for UBC and Session. We understand that our mission is the correct recording of this data and the education of the consumer about who really makes the music happen,” concludes the executive.
