How easy is it to write a pop song? Two YouTubers set out to find out.

There is a long-standing debate about the influence of an artist's musical taste on their work. For example, when Lady Gaga performed with Metallica at the Grammy Awards after confessing to being a big fan of the band, many questioned the boundaries between musical genres.

Many argue that singing pop music doesn't necessarily mean the artist only listens to pop. Considering the influence your favorite music has on what you create, YouTuber Jared Dines and his colleague Vince Mindas – both heavy metal fans – challenged themselves to write a pop song in 24 hours.

The result was better than expected, leading to many comments on the video saying it sounded more like pop punk or pop rock. Listen to the track below.
