The folk metal band Tuatha de Danann from , Brazil, has announced a new studio album. The group revealed the artwork and title of the first single, scheduled for release later this year, shortly after Christmas. “The Nameless” is the name of the band's new song, which will be released along with a music video.
Tuatha's next album, which has not yet had its name revealed, is expected to be released in the first half of 2023, and according to vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Bruno Maia , it contains elements not so common in the band's most recent production.
“It’s a somewhat dark, dramatic, and emotional sound, evoking some influences we’ve had since the band’s beginnings, but which aren’t always identifiable in our music, at least not since the first album and the first two demos, I don’t know. I hear Anathema there, Katatonia , maybe something more modern too, like Ghost , Muse , and Tuatha itself, which, given its age, is sometimes self-referential. It’s a new sprout from an old and strong root. It has all this different stuff for us and it has a lot of what we’ve always done: the Irish and Celtic phrases, themes and instrumentation, the flutes, violins, etc.,” Bruno Maia highlighted to the press.
According to the press release, the lyrics of "The Nameless" will address social and historical issues, and are partly inspired by the German philosopher Walter Benjamin and his Theses on the Concept of History . Bruno comments, "In the lyrics, we tried to bring the excluded, dominated, and defeated to the center and focus of the work. For Benjamin, real justice is only possible if there is historical justice and a justice of memory. This song, in terms of vocal melodies, atmosphere, and lyrics, finds its greatest inspiration in some of Benjamin's theses on history."
“The Nameless”, as well as the upcoming Tuatha de Danann album, are produced by Bruno Maia at Braia Studios in Varginha, Minas Gerais, the band's hometown, and will be released by the veteran label Heavy Metal Rock, the record company that launched the band in 1999.
The cover illustration – which you can see below – was created by Rodrigo Barbieri and carries the somber and epic intention sought by the band. Tuatha already offers t-shirts, mugs, stickers and flags derived from the artwork on their official website.
The current lineup of Tuatha de Danann consists of Bruno Maia (vocals, guitar, Irish flutes, bouzouki and banjo), Giovani Gomes (bass), Raphael Wagner (guitar), Edgard Brito (keyboards), Nathan Viana (violin) and Rafael Delfino (drums).
