The world is already familiar with the powerful vocals of Trivium frontman Matt Heafy , and in a recent video for Loudwire , the artist discusses how he learned to scream.
“When I first got involved with metal, the first band I heard was Metallica ,” he reveals. “It was Metallica, Megadeth , Pantera, Slayer … I remember when I was listening to Pantera, I was getting an introduction to the extreme vocals of metal.” From there, melodic death metal, black metal, and German metalcore bands also educated him on the subject, in addition to later receiving advice from none other than M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold .
In 2013, the singer experienced some vocal problems due to singing and shouting improperly, and since then, he has adopted stricter rules to better care for his voice. However, in the studio, he uses a different technique to achieve the sound he wants, which can still compromise his vocal cords.
The artist also explains how he warms up his voice for shows and relaxes it after performances, as well as details about his eating routines and even the support he receives from his parents.
