Alex Bent , drummer for Trivium , and his wife, Christina Bent , are asking for help online to cover the medical bills they are facing with their premature daughter. Christina experienced complications during her pregnancy due to her diabetes. Alex's wife started a campaign on the GoFundMe website, detailing the hardship the family has been experiencing.
The couple had already faced problems in their first pregnancy, where their firstborn daughter was born at 37 weeks. In this new pregnancy, Christina had to undergo an emergency cesarean section at 29 weeks to prevent her daughter from being stillborn, as her placenta had already lost amniotic fluid, crucial for fetal development. Although the cesarean section was uneventful, the baby is in the neonatal ICU recovering from surgery on her stomach, where a half-centimeter gastric perforation was found.
In addition to the emotional battle, the couple has also been facing financial difficulties due to hospital and medical expenses. Christina comments on the situation (via GoFundMe): “As we get closer to discharge, reality is setting in and hospital bills are starting to flood the mailbox. We will continue to need many specialist appointments and outpatient therapies due to her prematurity.”
“We don’t know what the future holds financially, as our baby has already been hospitalized for almost 70 days. We are so grateful to our friends, Alex’s band members, and our family who quickly stepped in to help us both physically and financially. The hotel rooms, the home-cooked meals, the UberEats gift cards, taking our older daughter out on a whim when I was hospitalized—they were a lifesaver during those difficult first few days.”
“Any help is greatly appreciated. All funds will go toward medical bills, any outpatient therapies, follow-up appointments, and helping to cover our living expenses while I am working few or no hours at my job to be by her side.”
Although the campaign is close to reaching its goal, the family is likely to increase this amount, considering that the child will need follow-up care after being discharged from the ICU. “This is our reality, and we have no idea what to expect when we are discharged. So we started with a goal that we thought was reasonable and, if necessary, we can increase it as we progress.” – Christina concludes: “With love, Bent Family.”
