The Norwegian gothic metal band Tristania has announced the end of its activities after a 26-year career.

The band wrote in a statement on social media: “After 26 years on the international metal scene, the members of Tristania made the difficult decision this week to call it quits. This means that future plans, including the Latin American tour scheduled for December, have been cancelled.”

“We’ve been struggling through some really challenging years, like the rest of the world, and we were looking forward to the Latin American tour, which would be our next big commitment.”

Tristania was scheduled to perform in Brazil on December 10th in São Paulo, at the Carioca Club in Pinheiros. Refunds for the São Paulo show can be requested starting this Monday, September 19th, through Bilheto .

The group would also perform in Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba, and Lemeira, as well as in other countries such as Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and Argentina.

The band's statement continues: “Last week we received news that a family member close to the band is in a serious medical situation, which will make it impossible to pursue short- and long-term plans with the band. This was a shock to us and we are very sorry to share this.”

“Tristania is a band that has never compromised on our art, and it has never been an option for us to present something that wasn't 100% for our fans and followers. The timing couldn't have been worse, and it's especially sad that we can't meet our friends in Latin America again; we've always had a special relationship with our Latin American fans.”

“Our sincerest apologies to everyone who will be affected by our decision. We want to thank everyone we’ve worked with for almost three decades writing music, recording, releasing, and touring, but especially we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Continental Concerts, who have been by our side in every way, a significant part of the band’s career.”

“Last but not least, we would like to thank our loyal fans around the world for the incredible experiences over the years. Without you, we wouldn’t have had the inspiration to continue for so many years.”

The band concluded the statement with: “It’s been a hectic 26 years. Now, let’s all cherish the memories.”

Tristania's last album, Darkest White , was released in 2013. The work was produced by Christer André Cederberg .
