Heavy metal suffered one of its greatest losses on May 16, 2010, the day legendary vocalist Ronnie James Dio passed away at the age of 67 after a battle with stomach cancer.
Dio, among many other incredible projects, was a member of Black Sabbath and Rainbow , as well as his own band, Dio . The musician was diagnosed with the disease in 2009 and underwent difficult treatments, including chemotherapy.
Despite his condition being critical as early as 2010, Dio made what is now his last public appearance in April of that year at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards in Los Angeles. And now, ten years after the tragic loss, we still miss him.
Born Ronald James Padavona , Dio was born in New Hampshire, USA, on July 10, 1942. While still young, he moved to New York to pursue a career in music. His success was so great that in 1988 he was honored in Cortland, where he lived, with a street named Dio Way.
Dio's career is well-known, and in this text , our colleague Marcos Naza shared a bit about it, so here, we will pay tribute to his career. Some of you may already know the video that the Wikimetal made for Dio in 2013, but for those who don't, here it is. Watch below the video we made with images of the singer and colleagues and headbangers who also miss him.
