Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails intend to resume work with the band after a glorious night at the 2021 Oscars. Alongside Jon Batiste , the duo won in the Best Original Score category for their work on Soul , a Pixar .
The musicians received two nominations at this year's awards, competing in the same category for the soundtrack of the film Mank . After working on soundtracks for projects such as The Social Network and Bird Box , the duo finally took home the statuette as the ultimate recognition of their work.
In 2020, Nine Inch Nails released two surprise albums as a way to encourage social isolation. Their original plans for the previous year included recording a new album and going on tour , but the project was put on hold due to the pandemic.
“We tried to do a bit of rock, so we worked on soundtracks, we just did three big things for films with Watchmen, Mank and Soul in sequence,” Reznor explained in an interview after winning the award. “We were supposed to be on tour, but COVID-19 stopped us. But we plan to work on Nine Inch Nails material as soon as possible, probably tomorrow.”
