Torture Squad thrilled Curitiba's headbangers this Sunday, March 31st. The band played at Blood Rock Bar , a cult venue in the city for those who enjoy rock and heavy metal.

The concert venue boasts good acoustics and separate areas with a bar and restaurant, as well as a second floor with a terrace. The themed decor is a show in itself, with paintings and objects focused on horror films, vampires, and gothic art – super Instagrammable. Entry was smooth, without large crowds.

The thrash metal of Royal Rage from Curitiba.

The opening act this Sunday was the thrash metal band Royal Rage , with excellent stage production and organization. The band, formed by Pedro Ferreira on guitar and vocals, Sol Perez on guitar, Airton Senna on bass, and Tiago Rodrigues on drums, started their show around eight o'clock at night.

As soon as they started playing, the crowd filled the venue, singing along and creating several mosh pits during the performance. It was clear that they are already a very popular band in the Curitiba metal scene. Therefore, whenever you go to a show, pay attention to the opening band, as they can sometimes be very surprising. This makes the event experience even better. So I recommend going and listening to Royal Rage.

During the intermission for stage setup, the audience was able to grab some beers and snacks at the venue's bar, which even has sofas. These are, in fact, quite important details for the audience experience nowadays. Also in the second-floor lounge, some band members chatted casually with the audience, waiting for their set time of 9:30 PM, and of course, everyone took advantage of the opportunity.

Torture Squad on stage with extreme and addictive metal.

The band took to the stage with all their extreme metal, performing the first single from their new album, “Hell Is Coming.” A devastating song based on the online game Diablo IV , highlighting the character Lilith. This was followed by the addictive “Flukeman,” with lyrics worthy of The X-Files. The audience filled the venue well, crowding more towards the front of the stage. The musicians, in turn, interacted a lot with the audience, adding to the excitement with many organized mosh pits – if that's possible, it certainly had to happen in Curitiba.

The current Torture Squad lineup features Mayara Puertas on vocals, Rene Simionato on guitar, Castor on bass, and Amilcar Christófaro on drums. They followed with "Buried Alive," "Hellbound," and "Area 51," with Castor taking over on bass for "Raise Your Horns." Rene's guitar solo mesmerized the audience in front of the stage during "Storms."

As it was announced that it was the guitarist's birthday, the audience encouraged a more "Heavyweight Happy Birthday" song, with the musicians even joining in.

Torture Squad closed the night with mastery and professionalism, performing “Chaos Corporation” and “The Unholy Spell.” Mayara's vocals bordered on the supernatural, so perfect were her guttural growls.

A chat with Mayara Puertas

Mayara , who took over vocals for Torture Squad in 2015, spoke very warmly with everyone who approached her, including Wikimetal . The diva with the colorful hair took photos with fans and answered some questions from the press about the band's current moment, the importance of continuous improvement, and the current state of the Brazilian female metal scene.

She told Wikimetal this year's Summer Breeze Brazil performance , which will take place on April 26th, 27th and 28th. She even confirmed that the band will feature a special guest, singer Leather Leone , formerly of Chastain . She will be in Brazil to promote her latest album.

After the show, Mayara and drummer Amilcar spoke a little more with Wikimetal . The musicians said that the focus of the next shows will be on the new album Devilish , and they invite all Brazilian fans and headbangers to go to SummerBreeze Brasil 2024 , because it will definitely be worth it.

Our contributor Vladimir Silverio was also at the event and captured the evening. Check out our photo gallery below.
