A tornado devastated the Apollo Theater in Illinois on Friday night, the 1st, shortly after the Crypta Morbid Angel 's performance .

According to Blabbermouth , the roof of the concert venue collapsed, killing one person and injuring twenty-eight others – five of them seriously.

The tragedy occurred shortly after the Brazilian band Crypta's show. Shortly after, the group used their social media to publish a brief statement saying that they, as well as all the other bands on the tour, were safe and well. A more detailed announcement was expected soon.

According to Blabbermouth , Belvidere Fire Chief Shawn Schadle said they received a tornado warning just 10 minutes before the roof of the Apollo Theater collapsed.

A witness who was inside the theater when the incident happened told the Rockford Scanner : “It was between performances. The first band had just finished playing. People went outside to smoke and then came running back because the rain had started to get really heavy. Suddenly the door started shaking and banging very hard. All the electricity went out in the building and the entire ceiling collapsed on top of the people who were in front of the stage, on the stage, behind the stage; that whole area.”

Crypta is accompanying Morbid Angel on their first US tour. Although they are all safe, they lost the motorhome they were traveling and living in due to the tornado.
