The best melodic and emotional songs for metal fans.

Even the toughest and strongest metalheads go through moments when their feelings overflow from the heart. Whether it's with an absurd depression and sadness, or with a gigantic passion where they want to express their love in every way.

And there's no better way to enjoy this emotional explosion than by listening to and singing along to good old emo. With influences from punk rock and hardcore punk mixed with pop, melodic sounds, and confessional lyrics, emo made a lot of people cry in the early 2000s.

With that in mind, Wikimetal has prepared the perfect playlist. Since metal is always on our minds, our editorial team has selected the best songs that blend the melodic and emotional aspects of emo with metal subgenres. This way, you can enjoy the vibe without worrying about what other metalheads will think of you. Check out our top 5:

5. Set It Off – “Partners In Crime” (feat. Ash Costello)

The story of Set It Off begins with a strong connection to emo music. Lead singer Cody Carson , who studied at a music conservatory as a teenager, connected with Alex Gaskarth , the vocalist of All Time Low , through YouTube. This gave Cody the opportunity to perform with the band and gain some recognition.

In “Partners In Crime” we have the famous story of dangerous lovers. They are criminals and murderers who live an intense and somewhat forbidden love. The music has a cinematic and burlesque scope that is reminiscent of “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” by Panic! At The Disco . On the metal side, the participation of vocalist Ash Costello , from New Years Day, completes this melodic and heavy mix.

4. Taking Back Sunday – “MakeDamnSure”

Taking Back Sunday is one of those bands that strays a bit from emo and leans towards post-hardcore, which guarantees the aggression and intensity of hardcore with greater emotional introspection. "MakeDamnSure" is a great example, and perhaps one of the band's best-known songs. An intense track that flirts with noise rock, it tells the story of what seems to be a toxic relationship or a very intense passion.

Bands similar to Taking Back Sunday: New Found Glory, Dashboard Confessional, The Starting Line

3. Locket – “Other People”

Locket is a Canadian band whose roots lie in pop-punk. Today, about to release their first studio album, the group has much more polished and complex compositions. A single song by the band presents elements of heaviness, emotion, and pulse while also being delicate and light.

“Other People” is a deconstructed track, with melody and heaviness constantly contrasting. There's still room for some electronic experimentation.

Bands similar to Locket: Safe To Say, Better Off, and Like Pacific.

2. He Is Legend – “The Seduction”

He Is Legend seems like the perfect band for this playlist. The group's compositions very clearly showcase elements of metalcore and more melodic post-hardcore. Formed in 2000, He Is Legend has become a kind of cult classic, achieving considerable success with critics and a very devoted niche of fans.

Bands similar to He Is Legend: Every Time I Die, Emery, and Hopesfall.

1. The Damned Things – “Invincible”

What happens when Scott Ian , the legendary founder of the thrash metal band Anthrax , joins forces with guitarist Joe Trohman , founder of the emo band Fall Out Boy ? The two create one of the most unusual groups of today, The Damned Things .

Alongside them are drummer Andy Hurley , also from Fall Out Boy, Keith Buckley , from Every Time I Die , and bassist Dan Adriano from Alkaline Trio , another exponent of pop-punk with a foot in emo. Rob Caggiano , formerly of Anthrax and currently with Volbeat, is one of the former members.

While metal and hard rock pulse through the band, there's always that emocore guitar riff brought in by the Fall Out Boy guitarist. It's unusual and great.
