The English group, founded by David Coverdale in 1978 after leaving Deep Purple , created dozens of hits that have become classics, and its lineup included a lineage of top-notch musicians such as guitarists Steve Vai, Adrian Vandenbergh, Vivian Campbell, and Warren DeMartini; drummers Ian Paice, Cozy Powell, and Tommy Aldridge; keyboardists Jon Lord and Don Airey; and bassists Neil Murray and Rudy Sarzo.
