Heavy rock is full of historic anthems. But it's also full of legendary songs that, for some reason, go unnoticed.
We've compiled a list spanning every decade since the 70s, truly showcasing the underrated music that has been played since Metal became Metal.
Check out our list and leave a comment with songs you think were unfairly overlooked!
11. The Chase ( Queensrÿche ) from the album “Operation: Mindcrime II” (2006)
A song that brings together two of the greatest vocalists in history, Geoff Tate and Ronnie James Dio, deserves a place in the pantheon, yet not many headbangers know this unjustly overlooked masterpiece.
10. Dance In The Rain ( Megadeth ) from the album “Super Collider” (2013)
Unfairly compared to the 1999 album "Risk," this album received terrible reviews, and the song "Dance In The Rain," despite featuring violins and cellos in the arrangement and including David Draiman, received no recognition.
09. Chain Lightning ( Rush ) from the album “Presto” (1989)
The song that follows the brilliant opening of "Presto" with "Show Don't Tell" has unjustly never been played live by the Canadian trio.
08. Breathless ( Dio ) from the album “The Last In Line” (1984)
The album that needs no introduction, being one of the legendary records in the history of heavy metal, has had ALL its songs performed live by Dio. Except one: Breathless.
07. Crazy Cat ( Helloween ) from the album “Chameleon” (1994)
The album unfairly bears the mark of being the band's biggest commercial failure, in addition to the stigma of being the last one with Michael Kiske. As if that weren't enough, "Crazy Cat," which features a spectacular solo and beautiful arrangements with brass and wind instruments, was only played a few times in the last shows of 1993.
06. Raise Your Glasses ( Kiss ) from the album “Psycho Circus” (1998)
Belonging to Kiss's last studio album featuring the original four members, Gene, Paul, Ace, and Peter, "Raise Your Glasses" has never been performed live.
05. SATO ( Ozzy Osbourne ) from the album “Diary Of A Madman” (1981)
Featured on the farewell album of the unforgettable Randy Rhoads, “SATO” (which are the initials of Sharon, Allan (Sharon's ex-husband), Thelma (Ozzy's ex-wife) and Ozzy) has never been played live.
04. Ronnie ( Metallica ) from the album “Load” (1996)
"Ronnie" is not among the more than 170 distinct songs in Metallica's discography that have been played live.
03. Air Dance ( Black Sabbath ) from the album “Never Say Die!” (1978)
Ozzy's final album from his first stint with Black Sabbath was poorly received by critics, being accused of "lacking focus" and "not appealing to metal fans." Almost 40 years later, the album has become a reference point for countless bands. "Air Dance" has never been played live, despite being one of Bill Ward's favorite tracks from this album.
02. Touch Too Much ( AC/DC ) from the album “Highway To Hell” (1979)
One of the greatest songs in AC/DC's history has never been played live, despite being included in the soundtrack of the video game GTA.
01. Burning Ambition ( Iron Maiden ) included as the B-side of the single “Running Free” (1980)
Considered the first song composed by Steve Harris, back in his Gypsy's Kiss days, the song has never been on any official studio album and has never been played live. It's the most unjustly overlooked song on this list.
